Bio:
Jill Whitall, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science,
School of Medicine at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She received a B.Ed from KeeleUniversity and an M.A. from the University of London, England before coming to the USA for her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, College Park where she studied motor development and learning.

Dr. Whitall has 22 years of experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students, first in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and subsequently in her present position.  She currently teaches students the principles of motor development, control and learning as they relate to rehabilitation but formerly taught motor development and elementary physical education teaching methods at Madison since she was originally a physical education and biology school teacher for 9 years in England

Dr. Whitall is currently pursuing two lines of research; both of which are funded. One project is investigating an upper arm intervention in patients with hemiplegia with the goal of improving interlimb coordination and performance of functional activities. The second project concerns the identification of children with developmental coordination disorder and the investigation of possible underlying mechanisms related to sensory-motor coupling. In this project the long-term goal is to individualize optimal intervention strategies for these children. Dr. Whitall has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and chapters and has been continuously funded from internal or external sources for 19 years.
