Topic：Verb-ing Form as Subject and Object

Timing：40 minutes

Overall objectives for this lesson：(based on the national new English curriculum standards)

Knowledge：

●Get students to learn the -ing form of verbs．(e.g. reading，watching，traveling, smoking，talking and ect)

●Get students to learn the verb-ing form as subject，object of a verb and object after a preposition. (e.g. Reading improves the mind. I enjoyed talking with you I insist on you seeing him off now.)

●Get students to learn the verbs which usually take-ing forms as their objects (e.g. avoid, finish, mind, keep, stop, enjoy, practise and ect) and the verbs which can be followed by either to do or -ing forms. (e.g. begin, Continue, hate, like, remember, forget and ect)

Skills:

●Students are able to use the verb-ing form properly in creating sentences and communicative activities.

●Students are able to make some comments on action and activities, and talk about feelings and interests，using verb-ing form．(topic based)

Affection：

●Guide students to experience life more deeply and enjoy a colorful life.

Strategy:

●Students are able to discover the rules of verb-ing form through observations and learning activities.

Culture: Get students to share their experience in life.

Activity 1: Description of the pictures

Create some sentences according to the pictures．

e.g. 

key words:

pleasant/swim/

swimming in warm weather

I'd love to go swimming．

I'd love to come swimming．

It's fun to swim．It's fun swimming．

Swimming is fun, especially in warm weather.

Activity 2: Comments on actions and activities

Teacher's demo：Teaching is a great job．I like many parts of my job．Talking with my students is fun. Helping students makes me feel good．But marking papers is not very interesting.

Did you notice? The-ing form of the verb is called the gerund when it is used as a noun. In these examples, the gerund is the subject of the sentence.

A) Complete the sentences with the-ing form of the verbs in the box.
